Learning to cook can help you at the firehouse
Maybe you have some special recipes that you family and friends like and ask you to make. Once you’ve been on the job for a few months, maybe one day you can offer to make one of your specialty dishes.
On this job, you will find some of the best cooks anywhere are at the firehouse. You will learn that firefighters appreciate the person who cooks for them.
On some departments, the apparatus goes to the store to pick up groceries. On bigger departments, they have a designated person who does the shopping. If you are cooking that day, you could also volunteer to do the shopping for what you need.
As you get more time on the job, you’ll learn whether or not the cook likes to do the shopping or appreciates people volunteering to do the shopping. It’s like anything else at the firehouse – look for any opportunity to jump in and participate.
