Learning Spanish as a Second Language
If you live in a part of the country where there is a large Hispanic population and are looking for something that will give you an edge and separate yourself from other candidates, if you don’t already speak Spanish, learn it. The investment of a couple of hundred dollars into a program such as Rosetta Stone where you can learn at your own pace.
There may be instances where you may respond to a medical emergency or fire where the residents do not speak English. The fire department will need someone to translate their concerns and problems; you could be that person.
It’s just another tool to add to your toolbox to make you more of a desirable candidate to a fire department.
Good luck in your pursuit of the greatest job on the face of the earth! Remember – luck goes to the prepared!
