PUBLIC SPEAKING CLASSES
Warren Buffet, probably the greatest investor in the history of the world, made this statement, “The one easy way to become worth 50% more than you are now is to hone your communication skills, both written and verbal. If you can’t communicate, it’s like winking at a girl in the dark. Nothing happens. You can have all the brain power in the world, but you have to be able to transmit it. The transmission is communication.”
How do you go about doing this? The best way is to take as many public speaking courses as possible, whether in high school or college. In addition, the organization, Toastmasters, are volunteer organizations that will work with you to help you become the best possible communicator you can be.
Why is this important? You will have about 25 minutes to communicate who you are, what you are, and why you should be hired in your fire department oral interview. Think about it – put the time in and get yourself prepared – it will all pay off when you’re hired.
Good luck in your pursuit of the greatest job on the face of the earth! Remember – luck goes to the prepared!
